I received a 579048 PayPal error. What does it mean?

Error Message:

Are you trying to contribute to the campaign?

That message just means that the Campaign Owner's PayPal account is not a Verified Premier or a Verified Business account, and they won't be able to accept contributions until their PayPal account is a Verified Premier or Verified Business account.

Not being "Verified" just means that they need to link their bank account to their PayPal account. Once they do that the error message will usually go away.

To help resolve the issue and help the campaign owner start being able to accept contributions again as soon as possible, please do one of two things:

  1. Contact the Campaign Owner and provide them with a link to this page, or
  2. Submit A Request and provide us with a link to the campaign so we can contact the Campaign Owner to help them out 

Are you the Campaign Owner?

This message means that your PayPal account is not a Verified Premier or Verified Business account*. To use our system you need to have a Verified PayPal Premier or Verified Business account. 

To Verify your PayPal account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account
  2. On the account overview page, near your name, click Get Verified
  3. Select the verification method you want to use
  4. Enter your information, then click Continue
  5. Click Confirm, then click Submit

To upgrade your PayPal account to Business or Premier, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account
  2. Near the top of the page, under your name, click Upgrade
  3. Click Upgrade Now
  4. Select Business account or Premier account
  5. Click Continue
  6. For a Business account, enter your business information and click Submit

If you need help getting through any of these steps, please call PayPal directly at 1-888-221-1161 and ask one of their Customer Service agents to walk you through the process.

After that's done, you'll want to refresh the email address in our system to make sure our system is aware of your PayPal account's new status.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account at 
  2. Click the "Edit" link for your campaign in the left column 
  3. Click the Payments tab in the left column
  4. Click the "Check it again" button as shown above and the message should disappear. 

Everything should be running perfectly at this point.
